This traditional 4th century stone-made monastery sits just a few meters from Parikia, the capital of the island. It is one of the most important church monuments in Greece! In fact, it is one of the best-preserved archaeological monuments in the entire country.
Panagia Ekatontapyliani is not an ordinary church, as its name is linked with a mysterious legend! Ekantotapyliani means “the church with a hundred doors”. The legend has it that this church has 99 doors in total, but there’s a secret 100th door that will be opened when the church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople will be Orthodox again.
