Hotels in Santorini: Caldera view or beachside?

Santorini is one of the most romantic islands in Greece, widely known for its scenic beauty. What we call one island is actually a cluster of islands, all that remains after a series of violent volcanic eruptions that took place over thousands of years ago. The intense volcanic activity created a large crater, also called caldera, on the edge of which beautiful villages have been built.

These caldera villages have the most luxurious hotels in Santorini. Oia, Fira, Imerovigli, and Firostefani make up the so-called caldera’s eyebrow. Located high above the caldera cliff, they offer a breathtaking view of the volcano and the Aegean Sea. Many hotels are located in these villages and have open pools with breathtaking views and spa facilities. Upon request, some accommodations offer massages by the open pool, where you can relax and enjoy the gorgeous view of the volcano.

Many hotels are found in the center and the suburbs of Fira, a lovely town that gets very popular because of its nightlife and the tourist attractions. Fira is also a transportation hub. Buses for all villages and beaches in Santorini depart from the central bus station of Fira and also boat trips to the volcano depart from the old port. More quiet hotels are found in Firostefani and Imerovigli. Less frequented than the capital town, these villages have some of the most peaceful places to stay on the island.

But the beautiful view of the caldera is not all that Santorini has to offer. The island is also well-known for its smooth black sand and clear waters. If you prefer to stay in a beach hotel in Santorini, then the beaches of Kamari and Perissa would be the ideal choices. These two beaches have countless restaurants, bars, and shops, therefore all tourist facilities will be within a short walking distance from your hotel. They are also well-connected by bus to Fira so it will be easy to get around the island.
