Best places for a short escape from Athens

Athens can be delightful, but while you are visiting the city how about a short escape nearby? Athens has the perfect location, in that it is quite close to the islands of Saronikos gulf and Cyclades, as well as many mainland destinations, ideal for a short break and a swim. # Nafplio

With is neoclassic architecture, picturesque alleys, rich history, and scenic environment, Nafplio is an excellent choice, just under two hours from Athens by car and almost three hours by bus. Much loved by tourists and Greeks alike, the area surrounding Nafplio offers many opportunities for a good swim, as well as restaurants, shops, cafes, and bars. Do not forget to visit the Castle of Palamidi -the stairs are many, but the extraordinary view will reward you.

# Spetses

Considered one of the most cosmopolitan islands of Greece, Spetses is accessible by frequent flying dolphins that depart from Piraeus until late at night. In just two hours you will arrive at an island with rich traditional elements, ideal for strolls and sightseeing. The unaltered architecture will enchant you, while a walk among the backstreets of Dapia and the old harbor will travel you to another era. The beaches of Agioi Anargiroi and Agia Marina are ideal for swimming.
